What do you do when the most beautiful part of an apartment is the view through a large glazed surface, while at the same time it represents the greatest challenge in summer?
Near Maribor, a contemporary villa block with nine premium apartments has been built, with its architecture largely oriented towards the southern views. Large glazed surfaces connect the apartments with their surroundings and open up views towards Pekrska Gorca and Pohorje.
However, more glazing also means more sunlight, which is why carefully considered shading was an important part of the overall architectural design.
Light under control
A combination of HERO.1X external blinds, OLIMP ZIP screens and awnings was selected for the building.
HERO.1X external blinds with integrated insect screens are installed on the windows, allowing precise control over the amount of light. By adjusting the angle of the slats, residents can shade the space, reduce direct sunlight or maintain outward views.
On the terraces, protection is complemented by an awning and an OLIMP ZIP screen. The awning provides overhead shading, while the ZIP screen protects against low-angle sunlight, provides greater privacy and creates more pleasant conditions on the terrace.
In this way, outdoor areas become a true extension of the living space – even during the sunniest part of the day.
When shading adapts to life
Another special feature of the project is smart control of the shading systems.
The system enables control via smartphone, tablet or voice commands, and can also be connected to sun, wind and temperature sensors.
The shading systems can therefore automatically adapt to weather conditions, increasing comfort while also contributing to more effective control of overheating in the rooms.
Shading as part of the architecture
In this project, the shading systems are not merely a functional addition, but part of the building’s overall visual identity. Anthracite shades complement the architecture and façade materials, creating a cohesive, contemporary appearance.
The large glazed surfaces therefore remain open towards the view, while residents have complete control over light, heat and privacy.
Good shading does not mean that we have to hide from the sun. It means that we decide how much sunlight and daylight we want to let into our home.
