Located in the immediate vicinity of Ljubljana, in a peaceful rural setting, stands a contemporary single-family house that subtly stands out through its architecture while at the same time harmoniously blending into its surroundings. The building is designed as an open, bright and airy home that enables a close connection with the outdoors while maintaining privacy whenever needed.
The design was created by architect Matija Miler, who wanted to create a home that would not feel like an intrusion into its surroundings, but rather as a natural part of the village fabric. Large glazed surfaces connect the interior with the outdoors, making light control a key element of the overall design.
Architecture of openness and privacy
The house is situated on a previously undeveloped plot within the settlement, filling a gap in the existing built environment. Despite its exposed position, it remains open towards its surroundings while also providing clearly defined private living spaces.
The floor plan follows a classic layout – the ground floor features a large open-plan living area connected to the outdoors, while the bedrooms and children’s rooms are located upstairs. This arrangement creates a balance between social living and intimate corners of the home.
Effective light control with ROLTEK systems
Due to the large glazed surfaces, a carefully considered shading and light regulation solution was required. The owners chose ROLTEK HERO external blinds and an awning for the outdoor space, which together provide complete control over the lighting atmosphere throughout the day.
The blinds effectively reduce overheating of the interior spaces while allowing the amount of light to be adjusted and maintaining a connection with the outdoors. This keeps the house bright while providing pleasant protection from excessive sunlight and unwanted views.
Technically refined solution for contemporary living
HERO external blinds are designed as a robust and reliable system suitable for modern low-energy buildings. In addition to protection from the sun, they also provide greater energy efficiency – reducing overheating in summer and helping to retain heat indoors in winter.
Operation is simple and adapted to a modern lifestyle, as the system enables integration into smart home systems.
The project clearly demonstrates how contemporary architecture and advanced shading systems can work together to create complete control over the lighting atmosphere. ROLTEK solutions are not merely a functional addition, but an important part of the architectural design that influences comfort, aesthetics and quality of living.
